The Government of Rajasthan on July 28, 2026, issued the Draft Udaipur Lakes (Boating, Jetty and Lake Resource Management) Regulations, 2026.
The Udaipur Lakes (Boating, Jetty and Lake Resource Management) Regulations, 2026 establish a regulatory framework for the management, conservation, and use of lakes and related activities in Udaipur. These regulations will come into force on a date notified by the Rajasthan Lakes Development Authority and apply to all lakes, water bodies, boating operations, and jetties under the jurisdiction of the District Lake Conservation and Development Committee.
The primary objectives of the regulations include protecting lake ecosystems, ensuring sustainable use of resources, regulating boating activities, and promoting safe and environmentally responsible tourism. They also aim to ensure fair and transparent allocation of Passenger Capacity Units while preserving heritage value and safeguarding public interest.
The regulations are guided by key principles such as sustainability, transparency, equitable access, public trust doctrine, and efficient governance. They emphasize that lake resources are public assets with limited capacity, which must be managed responsibly and in the broader public interest.
Importantly, the regulations clarify that no ownership or permanent rights will be granted over lake resources. Any permissions or allocations are temporary and subject to review, modification, or cancellation, reinforcing the principle that these natural resources remain under public control.
The general public, stakeholders, individuals, organizations, and other interested parties associated with the tourism and boating sectors are informed that they may review the framework and submit their suggestions and objections, along with detailed reasons, within 15 days from the date of publication of this notice.
